How to do roof tile pointing

After many years on your roof tiles need to be re-pointed. The traditional way was to re-point the tiles with four parts sand and one part cement. However this sand and cement mix is not flexible and will tend to crack over time. Today roof tile pointing is installed and re-pointed differently.

To install clay or concrete roof tiles from the beginning.

Step one: Sand and Cement:

Install two parallel rows of sand and the cement mix, one on either side of the peak at the width of the edge of the ridge capping. Lay your ridge capping into the sand and cement mix. Make sure the capping is straight and over lapping each capping tile.

Step two: Flexible tile pointing:

To finish the capping tile off install the flexible coloured tile pointing. This flexible tile pointing comes in a large range of colours to match the colour of your tiles. With a pointing towel apply the flexi point over the set sand and cement mix. The flexi point is to be applied on either side of the ridge capping tiles and on the joins.

Flexible pointing is the able to cope with small movement of the tile ridge capping much better just sand and cement.roof tiles

To re-point

Step one: Clean down:

Clean all ridge capping joins with a wire brush and remove any loose pointing material.

Step two: Apply Flexible Pointing:

Apply the flexible pointing in clean straight lines along the joins and over the top of the existing sand and cement pointing material. Job done!

Tip: Have a bucket of clean water to keep your towel wet.
