Bathroom Renovations
How do do get the most of of your Bathroom Renovation?
Throughout my years of renovating bathrooms of all shapes and sizes three main facts must be done to get the best results. Bathrooms can be very expensive and it best to get it right the first time.
- Design
- Technical structure and building
- Quality finish
Design
It is really important to get your bathroom design right the first time as it difficult and expensive to change later. Your design should include a your wish list or what you want the bathroom to look like, fittings, plumbing and drainage, and where your bath or shower will be. Also include any tile features like boarders or feature walls, lighting, windows, and bathroom storage. The best way to do this is to make a to scale drawing of your bathroom and add the size and shape of your vanity, window, bathroom storage, spa bath, shower, and shower screen etc. This will give you a great idea of what you can fit into your bathroom and where your plumbing will need to be run.
Technical Structure and building
This part of bathroom renovation must be completed properly using quality materials. Some people try to use cheaper materials and while this can be ok sometimes, many people find 2 to 3 years later the materials start to fail. One of the most important is waterproofing as it will protect your home from damage. It is best to use the best you can get and make sure all the instructions are followed closely. Waterproofing is easy to put on, however care must be taken to make sure there are no pin holes or thin areas. Also make sure all fittings are hot dipped galvanised or stainless steel. Quality Finish
Always have in mind what you are trying to achieve because every move you make in a bathroom renovation effects the end result. When laying your tiles pay attention to detail so the end finish is exactly true. Sometimes a bathroom may be build correctly with nice tiles but the grouting has let it down. Make sure you grout only 4 square metres at a time or your grout will set before you can clean it off. Clean off grout that has set is very difficult and must be scraped with a blade. Also use quality fittings for example your towel rails and soap holders should be long lasting made from quality materials.
