Kitchen Bench top Types

I have installed many kitchens over the years and the bench top can make or break the look of the kitchen. It’s a shame to put all a lot of work into the design and then install a bench top in the kitchen that doesn’t do it justus. Having said this, cost is one of the largest issues when designing and building a new kitchen and many kitchens are ruled by the cost. So, how do you get a great kitchen bench top without having to mortgage your last dollars? Be creative and know to the types available. Sometimes you can install a cheaper bench top and get the same look. However you may also decide that it is worth spending the extra to get what you want.

Bench top types

Laminate

Laminate is one of the most widely used and robust surfaces in use for kitchen bench tops. laminate bench tops come in an almost endless set of colours and designs that can be used to compliment any kitchen. The new laminates are heat resistant and scratch resistant however this does have limits and the high gloss laminates do not stand up as well to scratches. However the range of colours and designs are amazing from plain colours, brushed stainless steel, marble, to granite and everything in between. The good news is that laminate is one of the cheapest options for a kitchen bench tops.

Corian

Corian is a excellent choice and many modern kitchens use Corian. It comes in over 100 colours and designs and if it gets minor damage it can be easily restored and polished out. Corian can also be shaped into a wide range of profiles.

Granite

Granite is a natural stone and therefore comes in a range of colours with no two bench tops being the same. It is very durable and will last longer than the house if treated well. It must be installed by professionals because it is expensive you don’t want to get it wrong. However it is beautiful and will give luxurious look to any kitchen.

Caesar Stone

Caesar Stone is an excellent choice and is used in many high end kitchens. It is made up of about 93% pure crushed quartz and polymer resins and when combined create a extremely hard surface which in turn is very durable and long lasting. Also Caesar stone looks great because of the high levels of pure quartz in it.

Composite stone

Composite stone is made of different types of natural stone, colours and resins. Similar two Caesar stone but made up of different materials. Some have metallic glitters and coloured glass combined with natural stone and quality resins which give great durability and that little bit of bling to the kitchen.
