Now is the prefect time to plan a new timber deck for summer. Decks have become a very popular choice to add an outdoor room and extend your living area. As summer comes many people wish they had a relaxing outdoor space to have family BBQ’s or to just sit out there on the weekend with a coffee and a paper. Decks can be built with beautiful colourful hardwoods, treated pine that can be stained in a range of colours, and with increasing popularity wood composite.
Decking board types
- Hardwood – beautiful rich colours – easy to maintain and long lasting.
- Treated Pine – Can be stained in many colours – must be maintained to be long lasting.
- Wood Composite – Made of wood fibre and recycled plastic – A range of colours and no need to stain.
Composite decking is a great choice as the decking boards come one long lengths and their is no need to stain of coat them. The only maintenance is general cleaning which is great for those who are very busy and the colours stay fast and won’t fade. Hardwood and treated pine are also good choices and are available at your local hardware or timber supplies.
Plan your deck
Plan you timber deck with the purpose in mind. Yes it’s possible to build a deck that will add value to your home and that is prefect for your needs. Planning is the key, if you want to design your deck right. If you want a deck that is maintenance free and comes in a great range of colours then use composite decking boards. However if you love the beautiful rich colours of hardwood then you have a good range of colours to pick from honey coloured to rich reds to dark reds.
Plan the deck size with the future in mind
Make sure your deck can hold a party. If you build a deck to hold two chairs and one cup of coffee it may not add value to your home but if you add the space of a room you extend the use of your home by adding valuable floor space. So plan your deck and have it really for summer fun or have it ready for that family Christmas dinner.
